University of Winnipeg

The University of Winnipeg is a Canadian public university located in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. The university offers mainly undergraduate programs, although some graduate programs and a continuing education program exist. It was founded in 1938 following the merger of Manitoba College (founded in 1871), the Yellow College (founded in 1875) and Wesley (founded in 1888) College to form the United College (College uni), affiliated college at the University of Manitoba. It became an independent university under its current name in 1967. The University of Winnipeg is aparentée to secondary school: University of Winnipeg Collegiate (Collegiate Institute at the University of Winnipeg).

The University of Winnipeg was ranked in Maclean's magazine by former students in the top ten Canadian universities in relation to their school experiences (Entire Educational Experience). Students are represented by the Student Association of the University of Winnipeg (University of Winnipeg Students' Association), the latter a member of the Canadian Federation of Students (Section 8).

The University of Winnipeg is monitoring the current strike action by the The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) and how it relates to the applications and processing times for visas and study permits for university students coming to Canada.

Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.

Contingency plans are in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service.

Please note the official letter of acceptance you receive from The University of Winnipeg is valid for twelve months (three Terms). If you are unable to make it here in time for the start of Fall classes (September), you can start your studies in the Winter Term (January) or the Spring Term (May) instead. University Saint Boniface

The University of Saint-Boniface (USB) is a higher education institution of French language in the province of Manitoba, Canada. The USB provides general and specialized academic programs as well as technical and vocational training to a diverse clientele from Manitoba, other parts of Canada and a dozen other countries. University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba was established in 1877. It is one of four universities in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba and was the first university to be established in Western Canada.

Program description: The Aboriginal Business Studies Major offers all Asper School of Business students an opportunity to complement their major with courses or with a second major that many corporate and Aboriginal employers value. 

Professional opportunities:
Students who obtain an Aboriginal Business Studies major to complement any one of the other majors (i.e. Finance, Accounting, Human Resources) will have a competitive advantage when they seek employment at an organization that works with Aboriginal communities (such as RBC, Great West Life, Manitoba Hydro, Chartered Accountants, etc.). As the Aboriginal population continues to grow in Manitoba, this competitive advantage will set you apart from other candidates. This major is open to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.

University of Prince Edward Island

University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a Canadian liberal arts university located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the only university in the province. It was created in 1969 by merging the College Prince of Wales (Prince of Wales College) and the University of St. Dunstan (St. Dunstan's University). The law enacting the university is University Act, RSPEI 2000.

The main campus is located on the former campus of the University of St. Dunstan, at the corner of University and avenues Belveder in Charlottetown on a plot of 134 acres (54 hectares). To these old buildings (like Marian Residence) were added Duffy Science Centre, Hall Blanchard, Robertson Library, the Atlantic Veterinary College and others. The War Memorial Hall (generally known as Memorial Hall) is a landmark building on the campus of UPEI. Built as a residence for men in 1946, Memorial Hall honors alumni who have been and died in the First World War and the Second World War.

The University of British Columbia (English, University of British Columbia: UBC) is a network composed of two public universities in British Columbia: University of British Columbia Okanagan University of British Columbia Vancouver, the latter being the main campus.

In 1877, only six years after British Columbia joined Canada, Superintendent of Education John Jessop submitted a proposal for the creation of a university in the province. A provincial university was officially called into existence by the 1908 Act of British Columbia University, although the situation has not yet been clarified. [22] The Act constituted a twenty-one member senate with Francis Carter-Cotton of Vancouver as Chancellor. Before the University Act, there have been several attempts to create a university degrees with the help of University of Toronto and McGill. Columbian College in New Westminster, through its affiliation with Victoria College, University of Toronto, began to offer university-level credits at the turn of the century, but it was McGill that would come to dominate higher education in the 1900s . Université Bishop's

Bishop's University is an English-language university undergraduate located in Sherbrooke, Lennoxville, in the province of Quebec, Canada.

With less than 2,100 full-time students in 2007, it is one of the smallest and oldest universities in Canada. Its small size is its trademark: it has 17 students per teacher.

In 2006, Bishop's University was ranked the third best university in Canada with more than fourteen students who received the Exchange Rhodes1.

Founded in 1843 by the Right Reverend George Jehoshaphat Mountain, third Anglican Bishop of Quebec, the university began as a liberal arts college. Its foundation was sanctioned by an act of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec.
Established as a university by royal charter in 1853 and affiliated with the University of Oxford and Cambridge University, she first became known as the University of Bishop's College. The charter gave him the authority to grant degrees in theology, law, medicine, fine arts and music.

Trent University is a small primarily-undergraduate institution in the town of Peterborough, Ontario. Established in 1962, Trent boasts a majority of classes that have less than 25 students.

Saint Mary's University

Founded in 1802 by the Roman Catholic church, Saint Mary's is a small university located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The school offers a wide array of programs at both the graduate (including PhD) and undergraduate level. In addition, students may participate in St. Mary's co-op education program that provides real world experience along with academic training. 

Housing: St. Mary's University has invested in a major upgrade of its on-campus residence facilities. LaundryView is a new service that allows students to check on Laundry status without leaving their rooms! Students at St. Mary's develop life-long friendships after meeting a diverse set of peers in residence. The university strongly recommends that freshman students live on campus for their first year.

University of Regina

The University of Regina owes its roots to Regina College, a residential school established by the Methodist church in 1911.

The school has historical strength in petroleum engineering program, which is the largest in the country. A police studies degree program is unique and has resulted in agreements with many police forces. The Canadian Institute for Peace, Justice and Security has several contracts, research papers, and signed memoranda of agreement with other organizations interested in the work being carried out here. The Humanities Research Institute is a catalyst for productive workshops, lectures and conferences.

All About The University of Calgary

The University of Calgary was established in 1966, yet its roots date back more than half a century earlier to the establishment of the Normal School in Calgary in 1905. The Alberta Normal School was established in Calgary to train primary and secondary school teachers in the new province. The people of Calgary, however, attempted to establish another publicly-funded university in Calgary itself. "An Act to Incorporate the University of Calgary" was presented for first reading as a Bill in the Alberta Legislature in an attempt to establish a private university in Calgary. The Legislature allowed the institution to incorporate as 'Calgary College', rather than as the 'University of Calgary'. It withheld from the College the powers to confer degrees and to hold the examinations required for admission to the professions.
Calgary strove to have an institute of higher learning with degree conferring powers which led to the University of Alberta opening a branch in Calgary in 1945. The University of Alberta Calgary Branch eventually gained full autonomy in 1966 and became the University of Calgary.

The university was modeled on the American state university (similar to the University of Alberta), with an emphasis on extension work and applied research. The governance was modeled on the provincial University of Toronto Act of 1906 which established a bicameral system of university government consisting of a senate (faculty), responsible for academic policy, and a board of governors (citizens) exercising exclusive control over financial policy and having formal authority in all other matters. The president, appointed by the board, was a link between the bodies to perform institutional leadership.
In the early 20th century, professional education expanded beyond theology, law and medicine. Graduate training based on the German-inspired American model of specialized course work and the completion of a research thesis was introduced. The policy of university education initiated in the 1960s responded to population pressure and the belief that higher education was a key to social justice and economic productivity for individuals and for society. St. Francis Xavier University

Francis Xavier University a primarily undergraduate university in Nova Scotia, Canada. Founded in 1853 by the Roman Catholic church, St. FX today is considered one of Canada's top schools. Maclean's magazine has consistently ranked St FX as the top small undergraduate universities (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006).

Named for the seventh Prime Minister of Canada, Wilfrid Laurier University is a smaller institution in Waterllo, Ontario. The school offer small class sizes and an intimate sense of community among its students. Founded in 1911 as the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, today Laurier offers a number of undergraduate programs in their 6 faculties. Laurier offers an interdisciplinary education that provides the flexibility for students to combine many different majors.

Housing: On-campus residence at Wilfrid Laurier University is available through their 16 residence buildings. About half of the students are housed on campus, and whereas the other half are housed immediately adjacent to campus. Residences are either available as apartment design or traditional dormitories. Grand River Hall Laurier's main residence guildings are Post House, Rizzo Building, Wilkes House, Lawyer's Hall, Lucy Marco Place, and Imperial Hall.

St. Thomas University

St. Thomas University is both a public and Roman Catholic liberal arts university located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Founded in 1910, St. Thomas University is built on a foundation of Catholic and humanistic heritage, its concern for social issues, its interaction with the community at large and its sensitivity to the needs of individual students. A strong sense of community unites its alumni, students, staff, faculty, and friends.

Housing: All of our residence rooms are equipped with high speed internet, telephone and cable services and each residence has study areas, TV lounges, laundry facilities and snack machines. We set quiet hours every day for study and sleep. Security staff are in residence between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and a residence staff member is on 24-hour duty. We have three on-campus residences, all recently refurbished: Holy Cross House ( predominantly female); Vanier Hall (female); and Harrington Hall (predominantly male). Two the the three residences are equipped for students with disabilities.

Entrance scholarships: The Entrance Scholarship Programme is highly competitive and is designed to attract outstanding scholars to the St. Thomas University campus. Except when otherwise specified, the entrance awards are open to candidates for full-time admission to the first year of the Bachelor of Arts Programme who are applying on the basis of their high school records.

Mount Allison University

At Mount Allison students are inspired every day by a dynamic faculty an exciting curriculum. Resourcefulness and critical thinking are encouraged to equip students for their future careers. In addition to academic rigour, Mount Allison provides a nurturing environment, leading to lasting values, self knowledge, and self confidence.

Entrance scholarships. The University awards scholarships to freshman students for academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. Students are considered for scholarships when applications are submitted. All students applying by March 15 are considered for entrance scholarships. Students in certain medical fields can be considered for a Goodridge Scholarship. Scholarships awarded to freshman students who carry a full course load. Entrance scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and most are fully renewable as stated in the scholarship offer letter.

Preferential consideration for September enrollment is given to applications received by April 1. Mount Allison University accepts applications on a rolling basis, but note that to be considered for Scholarships and Financial Aid you must submit your application by March 15.  
At Mount Allison, students may pay between $500 to $1000 for textbooks depending on programme.

Carleton University

Carleton University, named after Carleton county, Ontario is consistently ranked as one of the country's top comprehensive institutions. Founded in 1942, Carleton University is a comprehensive university located in Ottawa, Ontario. UofO offers ove 65 programs with strengths in physics and political science. The school is situated on the Rideau canal on 62 has south of downtown Ottawa. There are 5 kms of underground tunnels allow students to access the University's buildings during the winter months. UofO provides many programs in science and engineering in conjunction with the University of Ottawa

Housing: On-campus residence at Carleton University provides students with an inspiring and diverse environment in which to pursue their studies. The residence community consists of students from around the world. Although there is no Greek row at Carleton, there is a Greek Council.

York University was founded in Toronto in 1959 and is Canada's third largest university. With an interdisciplinary approach to learning, Waterloo allows students to combine majors in completely different fields. 

Entrance scholarships $4,000 (90% and above), $2,000 (85% - 89.9%), awarded automatically based on your admission average.

Housing 
Most of our residences are designed in a traditional style with comfortably furnished double and single rooms and access to common lounges and shared washrooms. At the Keele Campus there are also suite-style residences which feature ensuite kitchen and washroom facilities. All buildings are co-ed, but some have all-female or all-male floors or sections.

All of our residence buildings are smoke-free. All residence rooms, on both campuses, are equipped for high-speed Internet access and telephone service (phone provided) with voicemail and call waiting.
