University of Alberta


University of Alberta has approximately 35,000 students, including 5,800 graduate (MA, PhD) and 3,000 international students from 121 countries. The University Library is the second largest among universities in western Canada, after the University of British Columbia. The university has 20 faculties, including the arts, education, agriculture, medicine, physical education, law, and many other specialized schools.
The University of Alberta has a French faculty (Faculty Campus Saint-Jean) offering academic programs in the fields of science, fine arts, languages​​, social sciences and education.
The dean of the university, Claudette Tardif, was Vice-President of the University of Alberta after a French language teacher at the Edmonton Faculté Saint-Jean.
The University of Alberta is considered one of the five largest universities in Canada, with the University of Montreal, University of Toronto, McGill University and the University of British Columbia.



The University of Alberta has more than 400 distinct research laboratories, making it a leading research institution in Canada. Since 1988, the University of Alberta has received more than $ 2.6 billion for research. The Department of Medical Research has developed the Edmonton Protocol, a new treatment for a type of diabetes that can reduce insulin dependence. Recently, the Government of Alberta, in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada and the Government of Canada, opened the National Institute for Nanotechnology, an advanced laboratory on nanotechnology.
