Université Bishop's

Bishop's University is an English-language university undergraduate located in Sherbrooke, Lennoxville, in the province of Quebec, Canada.
With less than 2,100 full-time students in 2007, it is one of the smallest and oldest universities in Canada. Its small size is its trademark: it has 17 students per teacher.
In 2006, Bishop's University was ranked the third best university in Canada with more than fourteen students who received the Exchange Rhodes1.
Founded in 1843 by the Right Reverend George Jehoshaphat Mountain, third Anglican Bishop of Quebec, the university began as a liberal arts college. Its foundation was sanctioned by an act of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec.
Established as a university by royal charter in 1853 and affiliated with the University of Oxford and Cambridge University, she first became known as the University of Bishop's College. The charter gave him the authority to grant degrees in theology, law, medicine, fine arts and music.
In 1845 teaching began and the first degrees were awarded in 1854. The university remained under the control of the Church of England until 1947. Today, it is self-managed by a corporation of Anglican bishops of the dioceses of Quebec. A Senate deals with academic affairs.
In the tradition of "humanities" Anglo-Saxon university concerns only the first cycles.

The student population is one of the cores of the population of the district and old town of Lennoxville, which has, apart from his students, a population of 5200 inhabitants.
Foreign students come from 50 different countries and it is possible to meet all (or almost). After the Americans, the French are the most numerous group: 25 students are in inter-university exchange and 17 are entered individually in a first round of four years2.
Most students live in on-campus residences or rent an apartment or a house in groups in the streets surrounding the campus.
Campus students are known for their strong sense of belonging to the university they appear through the purple color as well as in games of the football team and other sports teams of the university, the Gaiters. The mascot of the university is just a purple crocodile.
With its red brick buildings, the campus borders the architectural jewel.
